Assessment of the biological control complex and seasonal phenology of Halyomorpha halys in Japan
(日本におけるクサギカメムシの生物的防除およびその季節消長に関する研究)
With increasing global trade and international commerce, the world today is faced with advancing economic and environmental issues brought upon by invasive pest species. The invasive insect, Halyomorpha halys (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), is a notorious pest native to the East Asia region (Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, etc.), and has become an economic threat to agricultural systems globally. This pest is particularly difficult to manage as it is highly polyphagous, with hundreds of different host crops and also can survive a wide spectrum of climates. More information about the biology and behavior of H. halys in its native range is necessary for refining current management practices. This seminar will cover topics including the native sources of biological control against H. halys, and the seasonal population dynamics of H. halys in Japan.
